Thanks to a new state law, all public-school students in Minnesota must receive instruction in safe walking and bicycling skills at the beginning of the school year. MnDOT has frequently asked questions, educational materials, and more to help schools and school districts implement this requirement.

Wabasha County Food Access Network’s rich discussion results in a local cull cow pilot project.

Martha Black is the manager of the Wabasha Area Food Share in Wabasha. She also owns and runs a farm and is a regular participant of the Wabasha County Food Access Network. Martha strongly believes food should never go to waste. She is donating her cull cow, Rachel, and is seeking donations for the processing fee. Her hope is that more farmers donate their cull cows.

1. Mail a check to Wabasha Area Food Share, PO Box 174, Wabasha, MN 55981 - be sure to include “Rachel’s Fund” in the memo line.

2. Donate online - be sure to let Wabasha Food Share know your donation is for Rachel’s fund by using this contact form.

Immanuel Lutheran making recess more active with SHIP support.

The active recess partnership between Wabasha County SHIP and Immanuel Lutheran launched in 2018 when the school received funding support to build 9 Square in the Air. During the 2020/2021 grant cycle the school completed Minnesota Department of Health’s new, free online Active Recess Training and implemented disc golf at their school. To make outdoor active recess more accessible to students, the school partnered with SHIP during the 2022-23 grant cycle to build a shed to store the equipment.

Update on Current Grant Cycle

During this current grant cycle, November 2022-October 2023, $25,212.00 in Community Partner Funding has been awarded. We will be accepting Community Partner Funding applications soon for our next grant cycle which begins November 1, 2023.
